REFLECTION ON EACH INTERNSHIP PROJECTS/TASK

Project 01
MHTC Shenzhen – Event Branding
Week 4 - Week 6 (06/10 - 20/10)

Project Overview
The first project I worked on was for the MHTC Shenzhen program, a corporate collaboration between Sunway Fertility Centre and partners in Shenzhen, China. The aim was to develop professional corporate materials that showcased Sunway Fertility Centre’s expertise, services, and achievements to an international audience. This project required creating designs that were formal, professional, and aligned with both the centre’s branding and the expectations of corporate stakeholders.

Action
My responsibilities included designing corporate materials such as presentation slides, posters, informational booklets and promotional videos. I focused on:
  • Ensuring all designs followed brand guidelines, including logo placement, color schemes, and typography.
  • Organizing content in a clear and professional layout suitable for corporate presentations.
  • Incorporating data, charts, and visuals to present fertility services, success rates, and clinic achievements in an understandable and appealing way.
  • Collaborating with the team to revise designs based on supervisor feedback and client requirements, ensuring alignment with professional standards.

Throughout the project, I learned to pay attention to fine details, such as alignment, spacing, and consistency across multiple formats. I also learned how to make design decisions that communicate professionalism while maintaining visual appeal.

Result/Successes
The final corporate materials were approved by the supervisor and included in presentations for the MHTC Shenzhen program. The designs helped communicate Sunway Fertility Centre’s expertise and services effectively to corporate partners and international stakeholders. My work contributed to a professional and polished presentation of the centre’s brand, reinforcing its credibility and reputation in fertility care.

Overall Reflection: Challenges & Learning

This project was my first experience designing for an international corporate collaboration, and it taught me several important lessons:

  • The importance of professionalism in design, particularly for medical and fertility-related content.
  • How to balance creativity with corporate expectations, ensuring the message is clear and visually appealing.
  • The significance of collaboration and feedback in refining designs to meet client and supervisor standards.

I also developed technical skills in layout design, data visualization, and Adobe Creative Suite tools, which I later applied to other fertility-focused projects. Overall, this project strengthened my confidence in producing professional, client-facing materials and taught me the value of presenting information in a visually clear and structured way.

Project 02
Booklet, Masthead, Bunting, Footer, Certificate, Backdrop, Promotional Poster, Infographic, Calendar, Digital Screen,Wall Photo, Flirist Card, Direction Board and Sticker
Week 2 - Week 9 (22/19 - 10/11)

Project Overview
This project focused on creating a complete illustration series for Sunway Fertility Centre’s campaigns, including booklets, mastheads, buntings, footers, certificates, backdrops, promotional posters and others. Each piece was intended to communicate fertility services, patient support, and the centre’s professionalism and compassion. The challenge was to maintain a consistent visual identity while creating different materials for multiple purposes.

Action
I started with the masthead design, which was central to all other materials. The masthead needed to be professional, visually appealing, and reflective of the hope and care associated with fertility services. After designing the masthead, I adapted its style to booklets, certificates, buntings, and posters. I worked on typography, layouts, and illustrations that would appeal to patients while maintaining a professional tone. I also experimented with colors and graphics that conveyed warmth, trust, and hopefulness, which are essential in fertility-related communications. Throughout the process, I incorporated feedback from my supervisor to refine design details, ensuring readability, visual consistency, and emotional impact.

Result/Successes
The illustration series successfully created a cohesive brand identity for Sunway Fertility Centre across multiple materials. These materials were used in print, social media, and on-site campaigns to enhance patient communication and brand visibility. The masthead became a consistent element that tied all designs together and elevated the professional image of the centre.

Overall Reflection: Challenges & Learning
Through this project, I learned how to create visual cohesion across a wide range of materials while keeping the content patient-focused and professional. I developed skills in illustration, layout design, and typography, and learned the importance of emotional design in healthcare contexts. The masthead design, in particular, taught me how a single visual element can influence the overall perception of a brand. I also realized that working in a healthcare environment requires sensitivity, empathy, and attention to detail to communicate effectively with patients and the public.

Project 03
Template Designs – Greeting Cards & Posters
Week 9 - Week 12 (10/11 - 01/12)

Project Overview
I was assigned to create reusable templates for greeting cards and posters for fertility campaigns and centre events. The templates needed to be flexible for multiple uses while maintaining brand identity and professionalism.

Action
I designed multiple layouts in Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, focusing on elements such as colors, fonts, and imagery that are warm, inviting, and suitable for fertility patients. I ensured that the templates could be easily adapted for different events, such as patient celebrations, awareness campaigns, and seasonal greetings. I applied consistent design principles across all templates to maintain brand recognition.

Result/Successes
The templates were approved and implemented for clinic use. They allowed the team to quickly generate professional, consistent content for various campaigns, saving time while maintaining quality and sensitivity.

Overall Reflection: Challenges & Learning
This project helped me understand how to design reusable materials that are both flexible and visually coherent. I strengthened my skills in layout, typography, and color theory while learning to design for a sensitive audience. I also realized the importance of anticipating future needs when creating templates, which is a valuable skill in professional design work.

I practiced pacing and storytelling to ensure clarity and emotional impact. I also joined shooting sessions, assisting with camera setup, lighting, and framing to better understand video composition. Additionally, I applied color correction, audio adjustments, and branding overlays to maintain a professional finish.

REFLECTION ON THE WHOLE INTERNSHIP EXPERIENCE

My internship at Sunway Fertility Centre was a highly valuable and eye-opening experience that allowed me to gain practical skills in graphic design, video editing, and social media management, all within the healthcare and fertility context. Over the course of several months, I was exposed to a variety of projects that gradually increased in complexity, from designing simple templates to creating professional corporate materials and editing patient-centered videos.

Throughout the internship, I developed both technical and soft skills. On the technical side, I improved my proficiency in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and Premiere Pro, learning to create professional-quality designs and videos. Designing materials such as booklets, posters, mastheads, certificates, and social media content taught me how to maintain visual consistency and brand identity across different media. Editing videos for patient journeys, educational content, and promotional campaigns helped me understand storytelling, pacing, and emotional impact, which are particularly important in fertility communication where sensitivity is key.

I also gained hands-on experience in shooting videos, learning about camera angles, lighting, and framing to ensure professional output. This practical experience gave me insight into the full production workflow, from planning and shooting to editing and publishing. On the soft skills side, I learned time management, collaboration, and communication. Working closely with my supervisor and team, I learned to accept constructive feedback and apply it to improve my work. I also learned the importance of understanding the audience, particularly fertility patients, and designing materials that were not only visually appealing but also empathetic, professional, and informative.

One of the main challenges I faced was designing for a sensitive healthcare context, especially fertility-related content. Unlike standard graphic design projects, every element needed to be carefully considered to ensure it communicated professionalism, empathy, and clarity. Learning to balance creativity with sensitivity was initially difficult, but over time I developed a better understanding of how design can positively influence patient perception and engagement. Another challenge was mastering video editing in Adobe Premiere Pro. Initially, it was overwhelming to manage timelines, audio, and visual effects simultaneously. However, through practice, guidance from my supervisor, and iterative editing, I gradually became more confident in producing professional videos.

Overall, my internship at Sunway Fertility Centre was an enriching and transformative experience. I gained practical skills in graphic design, illustration, video editing, and social media management, learned to communicate sensitively with patients through design, and gained confidence in working in a professional healthcare environment. This internship not only enhanced my technical abilities but also gave me valuable insights into working in a real-world design studio and the importance of thoughtful, empathetic visual communication.

I am grateful for the guidance of my supervisor and the opportunities to work on a diverse range of projects. This experience has inspired me to continue improving my skills and pursue a career in design, particularly in areas where creativity meets meaningful communication, such as healthcare and patient-centered design.
